Support and assistance on arrival and during the period of stay

• Academic aspects – contact with faculties, help in choosing the right course(s) and in preparing/changing the study/research plan.
• Office support: The International Office team at the Universidad de León provides all the support to students; it acts as a liaison unit between the student and the Faculty administration. The ULE makes available to all grantees a Guide with detailed information under www.studyinleon.es
• Visa – Fast issuing and posting of the necessary visa invitation. If so requested by applicant, direct contact with the Spanish consulate in order to speed up the issuing of the visas and solve any obstacle.
• Accommodation – All candidates will be offered a temporary accommodation for the first days of stay, with clear information on the costs and conditions. Mentor students will assist the candidate to find a suitable apartment. Places at the different private halls of residence will also be offered.
• Grant: the International Office will immediately provide grant holders with grant money upon arrival through the handing of a personal check to make cash at the University Bank.
• Travel –At arrival - Pick up at station by the mentor student, support in registering at Finances and Foreign and Immigration Services, opening of a bank account, etc.
• Welcome session: all grantees registered in the International Office may attend the Spanish crash course (2 weeks) and the welcome week during which students are provided with all the information they may require as well as mixed with local and other international students.
• Inscription: All students (be it for credit transfer or degree seeking) need to register and enroll in the chosen courses/degree. The students are informed about the required documents and the deadline to do this. During the mobility period, the Erasmus Mundus team organizes monthly mandatory meetings for all EM grantees as well as cultural and integration activities. At the end of the stay, the ULE also provides support in obtaining and sending the diplomas (if applicable) and the declarations of participation.

 

Halls of residence on offer

Individual room in a student’s flat, with shared kitchen, living room and toilet. The approximate cost for a room is 175 €/month. Students usually have to pay a one month deposit. There are also other options available such as university Residences or accommodation with a Spanish family. Information available at http://www.jeule.unileon.es and go to “Programa Vivienda”.

 

Language courses on offer

The Language Centre provides a wide range of language courses for students (English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese and Arabic). The starting dates differ each year, but the intensive course is normally in September and the annual course is given in each semester. The Spanish crash course and any other language course (maximum two) will be paid by the participation costs funding of students staying 10 months or more. All students whose mobility duration is less than 10 months will be offered the opportunity to participate in language courses but they will have to pay a fee of approximately 250€ per language (varies each year) for enrollment. Support to disabled people

Disabled students should inform the International Office in advance, so that provisions are taken regarding their special needs. Some University halls of residence are already prepared for disabled people. All ULE buildings are wheel chair accessible. Monitoring Activities

Monthly mandatory meetings; permanent contact with the scholarship holders by email, telephone and through the regular meetings; permanent contact with the liaison officers at each Faculty and responsible professors to monitor the ongoing activities.

 

Integration events organized by the University

Welcoming events to Erasmus Mundus students and to all international students; Christmas, Carnival and other local festivities' celebrations; other social and cultural events such as music concerts, picnics, sports activities, etc.
