The IRO has developed a large experience in terms of managing bilateral agreements and organising the reception and sending of students. It provides practical information about visa arrangements thanks to its close relation with the Spanish consulates in other parts of the world. The IRO officers are also skilled and experienced in offering advising regarding our university and country, organising accommodation for all the incoming grantees, language preparation courses and medical insurance. The IRO staff keeps close contact with international coordinators at each Faculty so that the follow-up of the grantees is be made. The ECTS is used for exchange students, so that academic and practical information, learning agreements and academic records are issued according to this system. The IRO web page is continuously updated and improved. The IRO of the UVa is in charge of all practical matters: issue of invitation letters, assignment of an academic tutor, who monitors the grantee activities, provision of accommodation services and organization of activities to ensure full integration in the University life. We already have a close contact with the Spanish Consulates in Latin America to ensure visas are issued on time.
Individual room in a students flat, sharing kitchen, living room and bathroom. The approximate cost for a room is 200 €/month. Students usually have to pay a one month deposit. The city of Valladolid, capital of the Region of Castile and Leon, is located in the centre of this region, 200 kms. Northwest of Madrid; and has a population of about 350,000 inhabitants. The University with its large student population makes the city exceptionally friendly and lively. During the year, the student associations organise a wide range of cultural, sports and recreational activities. At weekends, students can enjoy its buzzing night life. The province of Valladolid is also internationally known for its variety of wines. Roast lamb with a good wine is a perfect example, among others, of the gastronomy of our region. The climate in Valladolid ranges from cold winters with temperatures below 0º C to very hot summers with average temperatures of around 30º C.The cost of living for foreign students in Valladolid, is approximately 600 € a month. Some examples of the cost of living are: accommodation (per month): 200 €; food (monthly): 200 €; pocket money (per month): 200 €; bus ticket: 120 €. The Secretariat for Social Affairs is a University of Valladolid welfare service. Among other areas it is involved in overcoming any obstacles which may limit access to University for students with disabilities. We organize monthly mandatory meetings and keep permanent contact with scholarship holders at the international office and by mail and telephone. We are also in contact with the scholarship holders' academic tutors.
